Welcome to Colfax Township

Colfax Township is situated in the southeast corner of beautiful Benzie County, Michigan.

The township is about 40% state land and has 585 residents. Hunting, golfing, and camping are popular summer pastimes, along with skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding in the winter months.

There are many access points for fishing, canoeing and kayaking the Betsie River, which runs through the entire township.

Colfax Township residents enjoy the quiet rural character, yet have the convenience of the services offered by the nearby villages of Thompsonville and Beulah.

The larger cities of Manistee, Cadillac, and Traverse City are only about thirty-five miles from the township.

At the American Waste / Northern Disposal Site, Gallagher Rd. & Second Street, Thompsonville. A load is considered a regular pickup or equivalent. The first load is free, each additional load is $15.00 .
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED : yard waste ( leaves, grass clippings, etc. ) Household garbage, Hazardous waste ( old batteries, paint, oil, etc. ) Tires , Any appliance containing Freon ( freezers, refrigerators , air conditioners )

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS : old furniture & TVs, metal, washing machines, dryers, etc.
